USING THE CART

Do I have to pay for the cart? When will I get the cart?

Wellman Waste Services provides your 96-gallon cart at no cost to you. We will deliver it within 3 business days after you Request a Quote for service.

Do I have to use the cart?

Yes. The Wellman cart is commercial grade and is designed to work with the special cart handling equipment, or cart tippers, on our truck.

Why can’t I use my own carts?

Your carts won’t work with our equipment. The use of carts and cart tippers is considered semi-automated collection, and is a safer, more efficient method of picking up household garbage than dumping everything by hand. Efficiency allows us to keep our rates low and we believe in providing a safe work environment for our employees. So that’s why you must use the cart for your trash.

What happens if my cart gets lost or stolen?

The carts belong to Wellman Waste Services, and we expect residents to take reasonable care of our property. They must not be painted, mutilated, altered or modified in any way. If the collection truck damages or destroys your carts, they will be replaced at no cost to you. If the responsibility for the damage or loss of a cart cannot be determined, we will replace it at our expense. If the damage is caused by negligence of the resident, there will be a charge of $60.00 and the cart will be replaced.

Lost or stolen carts will be replaced once at no cost. Any subsequent losses will be the responsibility of the resident. Lost or stolen carts should be reported to the Sheriff’s Department. Send us the police report and we will bring you a new cart.

What do I put in the garbage cart?

Typical household garbage goes into the cart. The garbage should be placed in plastic bags and sealed, to prevent litter and to help keep your cart clean. Plastic bags are not mandatory, but highly recommended. You may put yard waste such as bagged grass clippings, leaves, or tree trimmings in the cart, as long as these items fit inside the cart.  Do not stack yard waste outside the cart. It will not be collected.

What doesn’t go in the cart?

Do not put lumber, shingles, rocks, dirt, batteries, or old tires in the cart. Do not use the cart to dispose of hazardous wastes such as paint, motor oil, poisons and flammable liquids. Dispose of these at your city Hazmat Center. Do not place hot coals from your barbecue grill in the garbage cart. It’s a tough cart, but it’s no barbecue grill and it could melt or catch on fire.

On Collection Day

When do I put my cart out for collection?

Carts should be set out for collection by 6:00 a.m. on collection day. You may set your cart out the night before. After collection, you should remove your cart from the curb and store it in a convenient place near your house. The container should be removed from the curb by 6:00 p.m. the day of collection. IF YOUR GARBAGE PICKUP IS MISSED, report the missed pickup after 8:00 p.m. or first thing the next morning. To ensure your cart is picked up, it is best to place it at the curb the night before your collection day.

Where do I set my cart out for collection?

Carts should be positioned at the curb, approximately three feet from the street. The handle of the cart should face the street. Carts on major highways may be placed 6 to 8 feet from the road to prevent big trucks from blowing them away. When your carts are delivered, they will be placed at the best location for pickup. After collection, roll your carts back to a safe storage location. Do not leave the carts at the curb where they may be stolen or damaged.

What about holidays?

No matter the holiday, set your cart out on your normal collection day. (Wellman will not pick up on Christmas, New Years, Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July). We will be one business day behind on those weeks.

Rates & Payment

What is my rate for garbage pickup, and how is it determined?

Wellman’s Waste Services customizes your rate structure based on several factors: location, neighborhood density, route saturation, and other considerations. When you request service, we will quote a specific rate for your location. We pledge to be competitive with other collection options you might have. We might even be cheaper, and we know our service will be better!

How Do You Charge for Bulky Pickups?

Again, it depends on where you are and what you need us to pick up. Brush and limbs are one thing, a refrigerator is something entirely different. Give us a call at 502-276-7700 and tell us what you have to be picked up.

How do I pay my bill?

When you receive your monthly bill from Wellman Waste Services, we’ll include a convenient return envelope. Put your check in the envelope with the return copy of the bill, add a stamp and you’re done.

Easier yet, go to PAY MY BILL and take care of it, securely, online!

NOTE: If you are paying via ACH, payments will take 5-7 business days to process and post to your account.

If services are cutoff, to be put on the route sheet you must pay by 3:00pm the day before your day of services. This is due to how our system works and posts payments. If you pay after 3:00pm you will not be on the route sheet for the day.
